NordEduRom: Romani Educational Materials in a Nordic Context
NordEduRom: Romani Educational Materials in a Nordic Context project aims to support the revitalisation of Romani (Romani čhib, Romanes) through multidisciplinary research focused on existing learning and educational materials. The project examines how these materials have been developed and used in Nordic countries where Romani holds national minority language status (Finland, Norway, Sweden).
NordEduRom centres on the following research components:
- Creating a database mapping existing educational materials in the Nordics;
- Examining pedagogical value as well as culture and history representation in material;
- Identifying potential and challenges for collaboration in creating and distributing Romani language materials;
- Supporting revitalisation of Romani language in the Nordics through recommendations that build on the overall findings of the research.
The project is implemented by individual researchers at the University of Iceland, the Finnish Literature Society, the University of Bergen, and Södertörn University, in consultation with a group of advisors, with Roma participation.
NordEduRom project is supported with a grant by the Nordplus Nordic Languages programme.
